Solar Pathways to Intergenerational Resilience

African Nova Scotian communities in Guysborough are exploring practical ways to improve safety, resilience, and local energy knowledge. This community-driven project pairs small-scale solar installations with intergenerational learning, building on an earlier pilot project in Upper Hammonds Plains.

Grant Award: $10,000

The project will install 8 solar-powered street and pathway lights in community-identified public spaces and 10 solar phone and laptop charging kits to provide off-grid power during outages. Youth and elders will co-lead hands-on workshops and storytelling sessions, building local skills while connecting renewable energy to lived experience, safety, and long-term community resilience.
