New Funding to Support EV Charging Across Nova Scotia

We are excited to launch a new initiative at HCi3: Accelerating Electric Vehicle Infrastructure in Nova Scotia. This strategic program is made possible through generous support from the Trottier Family Foundation, in partnership with the Clean Economy Fund, and with support from RBC.

Over the next two years, the Trottier Family Foundation will contribute $150,000, and RBC has committed $250,000. These investments will help catalyze private sector engagement, support regional charging access, and advance Nova Scotia’s net-zero transition - grounded in social equity and Reconciliation.

“The generous support from RBC and Trottier allows for a collaborative effort across sectors,” says Sarah Chiasson, Executive Director for HCi3. “We will be able to engage many partners and communities to inform equitable access to EV chargers.”

The initiative is designed to accelerate EV infrastructure adoption in Nova Scotia by fostering community and industry partnerships, contributing to capital costs in strategic locations, and developing tools and resources to support charger installation. The program will prioritize engagement with Mi’kmaw and African Nova Scotian communities to assess interest and identify supports needed for EV infrastructure.

“RBC is proud to support HCi3’s EV Infrastructure Acceleration program,” said Thea Silver, Senior Director, Environmental Impact, RBC. “By helping to make EV charging more accessible, this program aims to encourage the adoption of more sustainable transportations options, supporting the transition to a net-zero economy.”

This contribution will support the development of an EV Siting Guide to provide practical insights for infrastructure owners, engage the public sector, and work to address workplace charging gaps. The program places a strong emphasis on expanding access in underserved communities. HCi3 developed this initiative in collaboration with the Province of Nova Scotia, Halifax Regional Municipality, Nova Scotia Power, Clean Foundation and EfficiencyOne. These partnerships allow HCi3 to build on the work happening across Nova Scotia and share learning on best practices.

“Cities and communities play a vital role in supporting Canada’s transition to a net-zero emissions economy”, said Eric Campbell, CEO of the Clean Economy Fund. “We’re excited to support this important initiative by HCi3, which promises to help overcome some of the few remaining barriers to clean transportation in the province.”
