Land Acknowledgement

HCi3 is located in Kjipuktuk, within the traditional, unceded and unsurrendered territory of Mi’kma’ki, the ancestral and present home of the Mi’kmaq. They have lived here for over 10,000 years in deep relationship with the land and its inhabitants. In line with the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's Call to Action #92 and the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP) Articles 18, 19, and 32, we commit to meaningful consultation, respectful relationships, and informed action with Indigenous peoples. We understand the importance of learning, listening, and partnering with the Mi’kmaq people and honour their wisdom and enduring contributions. Together, we strive to ensure a healthy and sustainable future for our children and the generations to come.

Additionally, we acknowledge the invaluable contributions of African Nova Scotians, who have resided in this region for over 400 years. Their presence and experiences are an integral part of our history and the future of environmental stewardship, and we honour their enduring relationship with the land.

As we engage in our work, we are mindful of the diverse and interconnected histories that shape Mi’kma’ki. We commit to fostering an understanding of the land and its people, recognizing that sustainable practices must be built upon a foundation of respect, collaboration, and acknowledgment of the profound legacies that precede us.
